Description

Wageningen University & Research is offering a fully funded PhD position focused on organizing mission-oriented Digital Innovation Ecosystems (DIEs) to drive sustainable transitions in the agri-food sector. The project is embedded within the Mansholt Graduate School and the Wageningen Economic Research (WSER) group, in collaboration with the Business Management and Organization (BMO) chair. The research aims to develop actionable design principles for DIEs that align digital innovation with sustainability goals, contributing to the newly established Special Chair on Digital Innovation Business Ecosystems for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems. As a PhD candidate, you will conduct design-oriented research, perform multi-case analyses of existing DIEs such as SmartAgriHubs, FutureFoods, and 4Growth, and engage with stakeholders through interviews, workshops, and foresight exercises. You will apply and refine the DIE framework in real-world settings, including the AgData Partnership, and publish scientific papers while participating in educational activities and conferences. The position offers excellent employment terms, including a competitive salary, pension scheme, year-end bonus, sabbatical and study leave, and access to sports facilities. The contract is temporary for 18 months, with extension based on performance, and includes a tailored course program. Wageningen University & Research provides a vibrant, international, and inclusive working environment, with strong support for international staff regarding visa, housing, and integration. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant field, strong English skills (C1), and a passion for sustainability and digital transformation. The application deadline is November 3, 2025. For more information, contact Dr. Ir. Sjaak Wolfert or Titia Leutscher. Apply via the university’s website by submitting a CV and motivation letter.
