About this position

The Faculty of Social Sciences & Solvay Business School at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is offering a PhD scholarship in sustainable urban logistics. The position is based within the Department of Business Technology and Operations and the House of Sustainable Transitions (HOST) research group, which brings together interdisciplinary sustainability research. As a PhD student, you will join the Mobilise team, a collaborative network focused on innovative approaches to urban transport and logistics.

This four-year, FWO-funded doctoral project centers on mapping transport demand in Brussels, aiming to develop new methods for improved results. You will gain expertise across several domains, including transport and logistics, sustainability, economics, and statistics. Your responsibilities include independent data collection, survey research, and organizing workshops with companies, policymakers, and academics. The project emphasizes societal and economic impact, encouraging you to publish and communicate your findings to a broad audience.

Throughout your PhD, you will participate in international conferences, collaborate with colleagues, and engage in team activities and training sessions. The Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will be your home base, providing a vibrant academic environment. The HOST research group and Mobilise team offer a supportive setting for interdisciplinary research and professional development.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree and demonstrate excellence. Relevant experience or interest in sustainable urban logistics, transport, sustainability, economics, and statistics is desirable. The position offers a four-year doctoral grant funded by FWO, with opportunities for international exposure and impactful research.
