About this position

The Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University invites applications for a fully funded PhD stipend in Object-oriented edge-casting using semantic encoding, within the Wireless Communication study programme. The successful candidate will join the CMI Section (Communication Media and Information Technologies) in Copenhagen, a vibrant research environment known for its international staff and world-class research in communication, networks, control systems, AI, sound, cyber security, and robotics. The department is recognized globally for its academic excellence and societal impact, and offers unique research infrastructure and lab facilities.

This PhD project is part of the RePIM – Revisioning Public Interest Media, a four-year Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Doctoral Network. RePIM brings together leading European universities, industry partners, and 12 Doctoral Candidates in an interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral training and research programme. The network investigates how Public Interest Media can remain relevant, sustainable, and impactful by transforming how content is produced, packaged, distributed, and supported both organisationally and technologically. The project will involve close collaboration with other doctoral candidates, a two-month academic secondment at the University of Stavanger in Norway, and a three-month internship at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva.

The research will address the robustness of media delivery infrastructures as they transition from traditional radio-TV transmitters to complex, IP-based media delivery systems. The candidate will model optimal architectures for IP-based media, focusing on efficient resource utilization and robust delivery, especially in crisis and emergency scenarios. The work will explore the convergence of dedicated media platforms, over-the-top services, and the development of 5G and 6G networks, as well as the implications for public interest media and personalized content experiences.

Applicants should have a strong background in computer science, computer engineering, ICT, or media sciences, with documented expertise in technology research related to communication and media infrastructures. A Master’s degree of 120 ECTS points is required for enrolment. Candidates must demonstrate willingness for international mobility and meet the MSCA eligibility criteria, including not having resided or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the past 36 months. Proof of English proficiency is required.

The position offers a competitive salary and benefits in accordance with the Danish AC collective agreement, and is funded by the MSCA Doctoral Network. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design at Aalborg University and will be part of the Digital Transformation research group, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

To apply, submit your application documents (Master’s certificate, transcripts, motivation letter, CV, proof of English proficiency, and a research reflection) to [email protected], indicating ‘Application for DC4 position’ in the subject line. The application deadline is March 31, 2026, with interviews scheduled for February–March 2026. For further information, visit the RePIM project website or contact Associate Professor Reza Tadayoni at [email protected].
