About this position
The University of Münster is offering a PhD position in Cellular Neurosciences at the Institute of Anatomy and Molecular Neurobiology, in collaboration with the Institute of Biophysics. This research opportunity focuses on the molecular mechanisms of synapse formation and neurotransmission, with particular emphasis on synaptic organizer molecules such as neurexins. The project aims to investigate defects in these molecules using mutant mouse models of neurodevelopmental disorders, and to conduct experiments studying synaptic function and structure both in vivo and in vitro. State-of-the-art methods will be applied to analyze synaptic mechanisms and neuronal structure, providing a comprehensive training in advanced neuroscience techniques.
The successful candidate will join a diverse and supportive team, benefiting from a respectful work environment and a wide range of training and professional development opportunities. The position is fixed-term, initially limited to three years, and is part-time (65%). Compensation is provided according to the TV-L E13 salary scale, including extra annual payment, company pension plan (VBL), 30 days of vacation per year, and additional days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Additional benefits include sports programs, job ticket, company events, cafeteria access, and emergency childcare.
Applicants must hold an above-average Master’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrate strong motivation for basic science research. Prior experimental experience with the nervous system and skills in biochemistry, cell culture, electrophysiology, or microscopic techniques are beneficial. Due to legal requirements, complete vaccination against measles is mandatory for employment. The University of Münster encourages applications from women and handicapped candidates, offering preferential consideration in case of equivalent qualifications.
For further information, prospective applicants may contact Univ.-Prof. Dr. Markus Missler at [email protected]. The application deadline is 25 March 2026. Interested candidates should apply via the University of Münster career portal, ensuring all eligibility criteria and documentation are met.
