The Research in Orthopedic Computer Science (ROCS) group at the University of Zurich is offering a PhD position in Robotic AI Imaging and Surgical Guidance. This project aims to revolutionize mobile fluoroscopy by developing an intelligent robotic platform for intraoperative navigation, leveraging AI-driven reconstruction pipelines. The research will focus on three main areas: robotic imaging (including end-effector design, calibration, and motion planning), 3D reconstruction (multi-view geometry, pose estimation, and AI-based reconstruction), and surgical guidance (real-time, context-aware feedback and visualization).
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of robotics, computer vision, and medical imaging, with strong clinical translation in collaboration with Balgrist University Hospital and the national research platform OR-X. The ROCS group is embedded in Zurich’s dynamic MedTech and AI ecosystem, providing access to state-of-the-art infrastructure for translational validation. Excellent communication skills in English are required; German is an asset. Initiative, problem-solving ability, and teamwork are essential.
