About this position

Ghent University is seeking a post-doctoral assistant in the domain of Gerontopsychology or Gerontopedagogy within its Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. This two-year, full-time position is designed to strengthen research and education in the context of an aging population and the growing understanding of lifestyle influences on biological aging. The role is situated in a dynamic faculty committed to academic excellence, innovation, and societal service, with a vision of continuous learning and collaboration. The successful candidate will spend at least 70% of their time on academic research, assist in teaching at Bachelor’s, Master’s, or postgraduate levels, and provide guidance to Master’s and doctoral students. The position aims to build a connecting network across psychology, pedagogy, and social work, focusing on aging from multiple perspectives including developmental, health, cognitive, social, and biological psychology, as well as educational gerontology and gerontological social work. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field (Psychology, Educational Sciences, Agogics, Gerontological Sciences, Neurosciences, or Social Work) and have demonstrated research experience in Gerontology. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the faculty’s strategic transition and the development of a compelling interdisciplinary domain. The appointment is temporary and cannot be renewed, with remuneration according to salary scale AAP5 and access to a range of university staff benefits. Applications must be submitted online before the deadline, including CV, cover letter, diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence for non-EU degrees. For further information, candidates may contact Prof. Rudi De Raedt. Ghent University encourages applications from all qualified individuals as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy.
