About this position

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence at Cyprus University of Technology is offering up to two Post-Doctoral Research Fellow positions in the Environment and Climate Department, focusing on agricultural sustainability. The successful candidates will join the Agriculture cluster and contribute to a range of European Union–funded, national, and industry-funded projects, including the flagship EXCELSIOR H2020 Teaming Project, DIGIFARM, NOSTRADAMUS, CERBERUS, and CARBONICA. The Centre specializes in earth observation, space technology, and geospatial analysis, aiming to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa region.

Research activities will center on assessing sustainable agricultural practices, carbon farming, and the integration of precision and digital farming technologies. The role combines fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation, with opportunities to participate in dissemination, training, and educational activities within EU-funded research projects. Key responsibilities include conducting research on sustainable agricultural and carbon farming practices, performing field measurements at pilot sites such as the Achelia experimental station, operating and maintaining field equipment, applying laboratory techniques to measure soil organic carbon, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate remote sensing data with field observations. Researchers will also publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at scientific conferences, contribute to project deliverables, assist in grant proposal preparation, and provide technical expertise and training to stakeholders.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, Chemistry, Plant/Crop Science, Plant Pathology/Entomology, or a closely related field. Essential requirements include willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, a valid driver’s license, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience in laboratory analysis, programming (Python, R, MATLAB), handling large datasets, scientific project proposal preparation, statistical analysis, and EU-funded project management are considered advantages. Proficiency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Greek or other relevant languages is beneficial.

The appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for another year. The annual gross salary ranges from €36,732.10 to €52,908.42, depending on qualifications, with provision for a 13th salary. The position is funded through multiple EU, national, and industry-funded projects, including Horizon 2020. Researchers are expected to be physically present at the Centre’s premises in Limassol, Cyprus. The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an equal opportunity employer and adheres to strict confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
