About this position

The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a three-year, full-time Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position in Information Systems, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Science and the Department of Information Systems. The role is based at Campus Kristiansand, Norway, and is part of the Center for Integrated Emergency Management (CIEM) cluster, focusing on information and communication technology for development (ICT4D) and its intersection with emergency management. The department is one of Norway’s largest Information Systems research groups, offering bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees, as well as specialized programs in Cybersecurity and Digitalisation.

The postdoctoral fellow will spend two years conducting research and one year teaching within the department, contributing to the PRIFORSK funding at CIEM and advancing ICT4D research goals. The position aims to strengthen research capacity and provide scholars with doctoral degrees the opportunity to gain valuable research and teaching experience, supporting their progression toward permanent academic roles. The fellow will play a central role in exploring direct links between ICT4D and emergency management, and will teach at either the bachelor or master level.

Applicants must hold a PhD in information systems, computer science, or a closely related discipline, preferably with expertise in ICT4D. The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for approval before the application deadline and approved before employment. Candidates should possess relevant knowledge related to emergency management, demonstrate excellent spoken and written English, and have teaching experience relevant to the Department of Information Systems. Desired qualifications include knowledge of Norwegian, experience preparing external funding applications, conducting field research in Norway or overseas, and having presented their PhD thesis within the last five years. Personal qualities such as proactivity, adaptability, independence, teamwork, motivation, and interest in cross-disciplinary research are highly valued.

The University of Agder offers professional development opportunities in a large, inclusive, and diverse organization, with modern facilities and comprehensive welfare benefits. The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, with a gross annual salary of NOK 680,000–710,000 and compulsory pension contributions to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.

UiA is committed to diversity and encourages qualified candidates to apply regardless of gender, age, cultural background, disability, or an incomplete CV. Women are especially encouraged to apply. The appointment is made by the University’s Appointments Committee for Teaching and Research Positions, and shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview. Reference checks and background checks may be conducted with the applicant’s consent.

To apply, candidates must submit their application electronically, including certificates with grades, a list of publications, doctoral thesis, up to 10 academic articles and R&D projects, a description of research interests, project plan, and any other relevant documentation. All documents must be available in a Scandinavian language or English. The application deadline is March 1, 2026.
