About this position
This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is part of the EU Horizon project 'ODDYSEV - Optimised DYnamics of high voltage powertrains: developing Sustainable Systems for Electric Vehicles.' The research focuses on designing high-voltage motors for electric vehicles using advanced shape and topology optimization techniques, moving beyond traditional parametric optimization algorithms. The project leverages AI tools to achieve wide speed operation and peak efficiency above 95%, while incorporating system-level constraints to address the complexity of automotive powertrains. ODYSSEV is a collaborative effort involving 14 universities and companies, providing a rich environment for cross-boundary networking and knowledge exchange aimed at advancing the electromobility market.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and international research team at KTH, a leading technical university committed to sustainability, innovation, and diversity. The position is full-time, for up to two years, and offers a monthly salary. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, with expertise in electric machines and drives, finite-element analysis (electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical simulations), and proficiency in Matlab/Simulink. Excellent English skills (CEFR C1 or higher) and the ability to work collaboratively in an international setting are required.
Preferred qualifications include recent doctoral graduation (within three years), laboratory experience, knowledge of power electronics and control, experience in electromobility applications, and teaching experience. The application process requires submission of a CV, publication list, diplomas and grades (with translations if necessary), a brief research statement, and contact information for two references. The deadline for applications is November 21, 2025.
The position is intended as a first career step after dissertation and is subject to security clearance if applicable. KTH values equality, diversity, and good working conditions, making it an attractive destination for postdoctoral researchers in electrical machine design and AI-driven optimization.
