About this position
The Jenal Lab at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the role of signal transduction in E. coli bacteriophage infection and defence. The Biozentrum is a world-leading life sciences institute, home to 32 research groups and 500 employees, and is renowned for its contributions to biology and medicine. The Jenal Lab is part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) AntiResist, which focuses on understanding human infections and fostering antibiotic discovery using advanced organoid technology.
The research project centers on elucidating the function of the second messenger c-di-GMP in E. coli bacteriophage infection and propagation, and exploring host mechanisms that enable escape from phage killing by modulating signal transduction pathways. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team with expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, infection biology, and will collaborate with researchers in structural and computational biology.
The lab employs a wide range of techniques, including cellular and molecular microbiology, advanced microscopy, and omics approaches, to achieve a detailed understanding of infection processes, host responses, and drug treatments. Applicants should hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related fields, and have relevant research experience.
The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension, and offers salary and benefits according to University of Basel standards. The Biozentrum provides a cutting-edge research environment and excellent working conditions. Basel is an international city at the crossroads of Switzerland, Germany, and France, and is recognized as Europe's most important life sciences hub, offering a high standard of living and a vibrant cultural scene.
Applications should be submitted online, including a personal statement, CV, diplomas, and two reference letters. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Informal inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
