About this position

Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada is advertising multiple openings for postdoctoral researchers and fully funded PhD students in geomechanics of frozen soils and permafrost modelling.

The collaborative project is led by Mehdi Pouragha (Associate Professor of Geomechanics, Carleton University) with Stephan Gruber, and focuses on constitutive modelling, THM modelling, computational simulation, and the response of infrastructure in permafrost environments. The positions are based in person in Ottawa and are available immediately, remaining open until filled.

PhD positions are fully funded for 4 years. Applicants from engineering fields such as civil or mechanical engineering are especially welcome, and strong backgrounds in mathematics, physics, and coding are emphasized. Prior knowledge of permafrost, frozen soil mechanics, THM processes, or related constitutive models is viewed favourably.

Postdoctoral positions are aimed at candidates with strong computational modelling and coding experience, scientific writing ability, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively. Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada.

Applications should include a cover letter, CV, and contact information for two references. PhD applicants should also include transcripts. Postdoctoral applicants may optionally include a publication sample. Send applications to [email protected].

The research is supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
