The Center for Nano Optics at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is offering a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Quantum Metasurfaces, starting February 1, 2026. This position is based at the Mads Clausen Institute, Odense Campus, and is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation as part of the 'Dynamic Quantum Metasurfaces' project. The research group, SDU Nano Optics, is internationally recognized for its work in photonics and quantum nanotechnology.
The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research involving numerical simulations, nanofabrication, and experimental characterization of optical metasurfaces with embedded quantum emitters. The primary goal is to develop novel, ultracompact on-chip single-photon sources capable of emitting in high-dimensional spaces, with applications in quantum information technologies. The work will focus on efficient generation of single-photon streams and precise control over their polarization and angular momentum properties.
The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to the design, modeling, and optical characterization of quantum metasurfaces, as well as to the supervision of MSc and PhD students within the group. Active participation in grant writing and collaborative research activities is also anticipated. The project is coordinated by Associate Professor Fei Ding, with further information available from Professor Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi.
Applicants must possess a relevant PhD degree and have a strong research background in optical metasurfaces and quantum nanophotonics. Experience in advanced nanofabrication, as well as in the design and experimental study of quantum metasurfaces for single-photon generation, will be considered a significant advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a strong academic record and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
The position is fully funded for two years, with employment conditions governed by Danish university regulations.
