About this position

This postdoctoral position at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design, fabrication, and testing of bio-inspired drones. The research is inspired by the aerodynamics and adaptability of natural flyers such as birds and bats, aiming to develop high-performance, energy-efficient UAVs with morphing wings. The successful candidate will be involved in mechanical design, composite fabrication, and experimental validation of UAV structures, integrating advanced additive manufacturing processes.

The project objectives include supporting the development and validation of morphing drone prototypes through structural optimization, lightweight design, and rigorous experimental testing. Key responsibilities involve CAD/CAE modeling, structural optimization of UAV frames, fabrication using composite and polymer additive manufacturing, and preparation and execution of aerodynamic, vibration, and endurance testing campaigns. The candidate will also assist in assembling and calibrating morphing-wing UAV prototypes.

Methodologies employed in this research include design and simulation using ABAQUS, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL for topology optimization and aerodynamic modeling. Fabrication techniques involve composite layup and 3D printing (FDM/SLA), while testing includes wind tunnel, fatigue, and flight tests for mechanical and aerodynamic validation. The candidate will contribute to documentation, data analysis, and the preparation of reports and publications.

Expected outcomes of the project are the development of a TRL 5 UAV prototype, three Q1 publications, and a patent contribution, establishing a workflow for morphing UAV design at UM6P. The ideal candidate will have an engineering degree (Bac+5) or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering, with a background in CAD/CAE, structural design, or composite materials. Practical experience in additive manufacturing or mechanical testing is advantageous. Applicants should be autonomous, organized, and motivated to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Application materials required are a CV, cover letter, and one recommendation letter. The position is based in Benguerir, Morocco, and offers a 12-month contract with an immediate start. For further details and to apply, visit the provided application link.
