About this position
The Institute of Tendon and Bone Regeneration at Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg is offering a postdoctoral research associate position in tendon enthesis biology. The successful candidate will join the Traweger Lab to work on an IBW/EFRE-funded project focused on the role of matricellular proteins in tendon enthesis homeostasis and degeneration, as well as the development of self-organizing, enthesis-like tissue substitutes for regenerative repair strategies. This interdisciplinary project sits at the interface of tendon biology and tissue engineering, utilizing genetic mouse models and advanced experimental approaches.
The position is ideal for scientists with a recent PhD in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, who are eager to expand their expertise in musculoskeletal research. Essential skills include proficiency in cell culture, molecular biology techniques (such as qRT-PCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence), microscopy (fluorescence, confocal, live-cell imaging, quantitative image analysis), and computational data analysis. Experience with single-cell or single-nucleus RNA sequencing, next-generation sequencing, metabolomics, and proteomics datasets (using R or Python) is highly desirable. Candidates should have a strong publication record, excellent communication skills in English, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. German language skills are an advantage but not required.
Preferred candidates will have a background in tendon or musculoskeletal biology, familiarity with extracellular matrix biology, cell–matrix interactions, inflammatory signaling pathways, and experience in mechanical testing and biomaterials characterization. The position is full-time, starting March 1, 2026, and is funded for three years. The research environment at Paracelsus Medical University offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative, international team.
To apply, submit a CV, a statement of research interest (250–500 words), copies of education degrees, and contact information for three professional references to Prof. Dr. Andreas Traweger at [email protected]. For more information, visit the official job posting. The application deadline is March 31, 2026.
