The German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, Germany, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) specializing in Latin American Politics. This full-time position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in social science research, particularly those with expertise in political science, sociology, social policy, or public policy. The successful applicant will join the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies and is expected to conduct policy-relevant research with clear implications for Latin American politics. Thematic specialization is open, but candidates should be prepared to integrate their research into one or more of GIGA’s cross-regional research programmes.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or be close to completion) in a relevant social science field, a publication record in top peer-reviewed journals, and field research experience in Latin America. Proficiency in advanced social science methods (quantitative and/or qualitative) and fluency in English and Spanish or Portuguese are required. Experience with policy exchange and knowledge transfer is desirable. There are no teaching obligations, and German language skills are not required.

The position offers an initial three-year contract, renewable for another three years based on performance and funding. The salary is based on the EG 13 TV-AVH / TVöD scale.
