About this position

Western Sydney University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a high-impact Australian Research Council–funded project focused on sustainable construction and decarbonisation. The position is based at the Penrith (Kingswood) campus and offers the opportunity to advance research in recycled concrete technologies and cement decarbonisation, supporting the development of a more sustainable construction industry.

The successful candidate will work within the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team and engaging with industry and academic partners. Key responsibilities include leading and contributing to innovative research in sustainable construction materials and technologies, managing and analysing research data, publishing high-quality research outputs, preparing research grant applications, and mentoring higher degree research students. The role also involves contributing to seminars, guest lectures, and engagement activities within the university.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field such as sustainable construction, civil engineering, or materials science, and demonstrate a strong publication record, particularly in Q1 journals. Experience in securing competitive research funding, experimental design, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and data analysis software is essential. The ability to work collaboratively with government, industry, and professional partners is highly valued.
