About this position

The Institute for Basic Science's Biomedical Mathematics Group (BIMAG), located in Daejeon, South Korea, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. BIMAG is a leading interdisciplinary hub where mathematics, physics, biology, and medicine converge to address complex biomedical challenges. The group is led by Associate Professor Jae Kyoung Kim, a renowned mathematical biologist specializing in AI × Math for sleep, circadian rhythms, and digital precision health.

The position is open to candidates within five years of receiving their Ph.D. or those expecting to obtain their Ph.D. within three months. Applicants should have a strong background in mathematical modeling or data analysis of biological systems. The role is research-focused with no teaching duties, allowing fellows to dedicate their time to advancing mathematical theories and computational tools for biomedical applications.

Successful candidates will receive an internationally competitive salary starting at over KRW 57,000,000 per year, along with travel funds, medical insurance, retirement benefits, and administrative support. The Institute also offers family-friendly facilities, including on-campus childcare, dormitory, and family housing options. Fellows will have access to a network of over 20 experimental labs and regular international workshops, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Application materials required include a CV (with publications and preprints), a one-page research statement, and at least one recommendation letter (three recommended) sent directly by referees. Applicants must also submit a consent form for the collection and use of personal information, available on the IBS website. The application deadline is January 6, 2026, with an expected appointment date of March 1, 2026 (adjustable). Applications should be submitted via the IBS recruitment portal.

BIMAG encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to advance their academic careers in a highly collaborative and innovative environment focused on biomedical mathematics, mathematical biology, and precision health.
