The University of Warsaw invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Hungary as part of the ERC-funded project 'Re-thinking Queer Kinship: LGBTIQ* Families in Central and Eastern Europe (QUEERSHIP)'. This pioneering five-year project (2026–2030) aims to advance the understanding of queer kinship practices, support networks, and everyday lives of LGBTIQ* families in Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, and Hungary. The research addresses the limited legal and social recognition of LGBTIQ* families in these regions and seeks to develop a Multidimensional Sociocultural Model of Queer Kinships (MSMQK).

The successful candidate will conduct fieldwork and analysis in Hungary, participating in all work packages (WP1–WP5). Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing public discourse data (legal documents, social policies, media representations), developing research instruments, participant observation at relevant events, conducting longitudinal ethnography with approximately 10 LGBTIQ* families (including interviews with parents and children, diary analysis), co-organizing Participatory Action Research workshops, and conducting focus group interviews with significant others, professionals, and activists. Analytical tasks involve systematic qualitative data analysis, comparative work with team members from other countries, co-creation of the MSMQK, and preparation of at least two academic articles annually. Organizational duties include preparing research documentation, archiving data per ERC standards, and representing the project at international conferences and seminars.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in social sciences (sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, gender studies, queer studies, or related disciplines), demonstrate excellent command of English and Hungarian, and have a publication record in relevant fields. Experience with the LGBTIQ* community in Hungary, qualitative research (especially ethnography and interviews), and research with children is highly valued. Additional assets include project work, international collaboration, workshop facilitation, and ethical sensitivity. The position is based at the Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw, with fieldwork in Hungary. The University of Warsaw is expected to be the primary workplace.

The project offers funding for salary, conference participation, publications, training, and organizational support. The interdisciplinary team includes the Principal Investigator, four postdoctoral researchers, two doctoral students, and a Project Manager.
