About this position
Ghent University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher position in 3D concrete printing within the Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials. This role is part of the TwinCrete3D project, an acceleration initiative funded by the Industrial Research Fund (IOF-UGent), focusing on valorisation and spin-off potential with significant commercial and socio-economic impact. The project aims to further develop and optimize the Twin-Pipe Pumping (TPP) technology, an extrusion-based 3D printing method developed at Ghent University that enables increased printing speed and design freedom for concrete elements without crack formation.
The successful candidate will play a central role in advancing the scientific foundations of TPP technology, collaborating closely with an entrepreneur in residence to drive its industrial application and valorisation. Responsibilities include setting up TPP technology at an industrial scale, enhancing robustness in mix design (considering environmental influences and aggregate variations), and ensuring compatibility with large-scale aggregates. The researcher will build on existing expertise and preliminary results within the research group, contributing to both material and process innovation.
This appointment is for a fixed duration of 12 months, starting as early as 1 March 2026 or upon availability of a suitable candidate. The position offers a full-time research contract in accordance with Ghent University regulations, with remuneration based on university salary scales (WM1–WM4 for Master’s degree holders, PD1–PD4 for doctorate holders). Staff benefits include access to extensive training and professional development opportunities, flexible working conditions, bicycle allowance, eco vouchers, 36 days of holiday leave, and other social benefits. The university provides a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment and international collaboration opportunities.
Applicants must have experience with concrete 3D printing, mix design, print path definition, and robotics. Preference is given to candidates with expertise bridging material aspects, additive manufacturing processes, and structural or architectural performance of 3D-printed concrete elements. Candidates should demonstrate an independent and well-organized working style, strong social skills for interdisciplinary teamwork, and excellent Dutch and/or English language proficiency. A thesis-based doctorate or master’s degree with relevant expertise is required.
To apply, submit your application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before 1 May 2026. Required documents include CV, cover letter (PDF), diploma transcript, and a reference letter or overview of study results. Applications sent by email or submitted after the deadline will not be considered. For further information about the vacancy, contact Prof. Kim Van Tittelboom at [email protected]. Ghent University encourages applications from all backgrounds as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy.
