About this position
Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Fundamental and Applied Medical Sciences. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with strong expertise in multiplex imaging technologies and immunology, aiming to advance research on cellular interactions and immune mechanisms in liver disease.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment with access to advanced infrastructure for imaging and data analysis. Responsibilities include developing and optimizing multiplex imaging techniques such as multiplex immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptomics, designing and executing experimental studies in immunology and hepatology, analyzing high-dimensional imaging data, and preparing fellowship applications. Additional duties involve contributing to scientific publications and grant proposals, supervising PhD and/or Master’s students, and participating in national and international collaborations and congresses.
Applicants must hold a PhD in immunology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include demonstrated experience with multiplex imaging technologies, a strong background in immunology (innate and/or adaptive immunity), and experience with tissue analysis and image processing. Experience with preclinical animal models, single-cell or spatial omics approaches, and liver disease research is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent written and spoken English. A competitive academic profile suitable for fellowship applications is expected.
The position offers a contract of definite duration (1 year), starting as early as July 1, 2026, with remuneration according to salary scale PD1 to PD4 for doctoral degree holders. Ghent University provides a comprehensive benefits package, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave, annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance, eco vouchers, and more.
To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of March 20, 2026. Required documents include a CV and academic transcript (merged PDF), cover letter (PDF), diploma transcript, and, if applicable, a translation. A reference letter and overview of study results should also be included. Applications sent by email will not be considered. For further information, contact Prof. Lindsey Devisscher at [email protected].
Ghent University is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply. This position offers an excellent platform for scientific growth and the development of an independent research line in medical science and immunology.
