About this position

The Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Postharvest Program at Fruitcentre in Lleida, Spain. This position offers a dynamic and collaborative environment focused on professional development and innovation in the field of plant biochemistry and fruit physiology, specifically targeting fresh fruits and vegetables postharvest research. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Dr Neus Teixidó (Head of Program), with key researchers Dr Gemma Echeverria and Dr Clara I. Mata, contributing to scientific and technical tasks, experiment planning and execution, and achievement of research project milestones.

Responsibilities include active participation in fundraising activities, preparing and submitting project proposals for public and private sector funding, managing reporting processes, and contributing to scientific production within the program. The role also involves literature reviews, data collection and management, statistical analyses, and close collaboration with IRTA researchers and external partners to maximize research impact.

Applicants must possess a PhD in Postharvest Technology, Plant Biochemistry, Physiology, or a related field, with a BSc and MSc in Biology, Agronomy, or similar. Essential skills include experience in fruit and/or vegetable postharvest physiology, a strong publication record, hands-on practice with analytical techniques such as liquid and gas chromatography, and molecular biology methods (gene expression analysis by RT-qPCR or RNAseq). Candidates should demonstrate strong teamwork, adaptability to multidisciplinary environments, professional growth focus, a full European driving license, and proficiency in Spanish and English. Desirable qualifications include international postdoctoral experience, expertise in data analysis, bioinformatics, non-destructive postharvest quality assessment, project management, and collaboration skills. Catalan language is valued.

The position is funded with a temporary full-time contract for 3 years, offering a 37.5 hour workweek, Friday afternoons off, intensive summer schedule, 22 vacation days, 3 days for family/work conciliation, 45 hours of personal days, remote work 6 days/month, flexible schedule, and continuous training and professional growth opportunities. IRTA supports residence and working permits for non-EU candidates.
