About this position
Are you interested in helping adolescents improve their diets?
We are looking for a PhD student to work on an exciting and innovative school-based vegetable intervention study investigating how to increase vegetable consumption in secondary school students. ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
Vegetable consumption among teenagers is low and increasing vegetable consumption during these formative years can lead to a lifetime of improved vegetable intake. We are about to start a secondary school-based co-designed study focused on increasing vegetable sales at secondary school canteens and increasing vegetable consumption by student canteen users.
The research team will consist of nutritionists, food-based intervention experts, and chefs who specialise in improving school canteens and will involve 4 metropolitan, and 2 regional secondary schools.
Students, canteen staff and our chefs will co-design menus to increase availability of competitively priced vegetable-based options that reflect the choices, preferences, and cultural background of students, and accommodate available cooking facilities and skills of canteen staff. The intervention will be imbedded into a whole-of-school vegetable education program, focusing on vegetable consumption as part of environmentally sustainable eating patterns.
