Kyoto University is offering the KU-STAR Program, a prestigious summer research internship for undergraduate and postgraduate students from India who aspire to pursue a PhD at Kyoto University. The program is open to students in a wide range of fields, including Humanities & Social Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering Sciences, Informatics, Biological Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, as well as Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The internship will take place from May 19, 2026, to July 10, 2026, at Kyoto University, Japan.

Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of top faculty, experience the laboratory ecosystem, and immerse themselves in Japanese culture and academic life. The program also includes exposure to industry and a poster presentation session. Eligibility criteria include being enrolled in an undergraduate or master's program at a college or university in India, having completed at least four semesters if an undergraduate, and not being scheduled to graduate before the program starts. Students must also continue their academic program for at least one semester or quarter after returning to India. A strong academic record and meeting the specific requirements of the chosen laboratory are essential.

Kyoto University will provide accommodation for all participants during the program period. However, no daily stipend is offered, and participants are responsible for securing their own funding for travel and living expenses. The application period opens on January 13, 2026, and closes on January 27, 2026, at 5 p.m. JST.
