About this position

Great PhD opportunity

The Laboratory of Informatics of the University of Avignon (LIA), Avignon, France, offers a fully funded PhD position on “Bayesian optimization for Self-Organized Networks”.
The FINALITY Doctoral Network: the job is funded through the EU Research Framework Programme Horizon Europe – MSCA Marie Curie and it is part of the MSCA Doctoral Network FINALITY (saFe learnINg for LArge scaLe InTerconnected sYstems), under Grant Agreement 101168816. FINALITY advances the theoretical computer science curriculum focusing on the mastery of prompt and safe learning techniques for interconnected systems. The doctoral candidate (DC7) will integrate a team of 15 trainees whose mission is to develop and integrate innovative methodological tools specialized for AI-based resource allocation, particularly in the context of large-scale critical infrastructures for communication and computing. This position together as the other DC positions can be found on Euraxess: https://lnkd.in/dHYhqgfS

Candidate profile: the position is intended for a highly-motivated applicant who holds a master degree in applied mathematics, physics or theoretical computer science. Written communication skills in English are a prerequisite. Applying candidates will prove and/or justify the requested knowledge and skills by providing:
A full curriculum vitae;
A motivation letter consistent with the proposed PhD project;
All documents attesting the requested skills and knowledge;
Academic records and marks of the two years of Master;
One or two recommendation letters are considered a plus.
Required Skills: The candidate's curriculum must demonstrate solid theoretical competences in modeling and performance evaluation; technological competences for communications are welcome but not mandatory. Knowledge of game theory, Markov theory and machine learning is a major asset.

IMPORTANT: Candidates must fulfil the mandatory MSCA Doctoral Networks Eligibility Criteria:
Mobility rule: Researchers *must not* have resided or carried out their main activity (e.g., work, study) in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date (i.e., start of employment).

Secondments: this project is carried out in tight collaboration with associated industrial groups, and visits to their laboratories are expected during the project. NOKIA Bell Labs, Paris, France for applications to 6G networks. SAFRAN Passenger Innovations, Wesslin, Germany, for application to fleets of airborne communication systems. Willingness to travel and spend time abroad is essential.

How to apply: candidates should contact:
Prof. Francesco De Pellegrini: email [email protected]
Dr. Antonio Massaro: email [email protected]
