PhD Positions in Humanities, Communication, and Linguistics (IN2TIC, UOC/GRIAL)

The GRIAL Research Group at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) invites applications for 12 fully funded, three-year PhD positions as part of the IN2TIC project, supported by the European Union's Horizon Europe MSCA COFUND programme. These positions are open to outstanding candidates interested in pursuing doctoral research in Humanities and Communication, with a strong emphasis on linguistics, translation studies, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, metaphors, terminology, neology, plain language, accessibility, and related areas. GRIAL is an interdisciplinary research group specializing in cognitive linguistics, computational linguistics, and human language processing. Research lines include cognitive linguistics and conceptual metaphors (e.g., mental health discourse), psycholinguistics, translation technologies, and natural language processing. The group is recognized as a consolidated research group by the Government of Catalonia and is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Social and Cultural Transformations (UOC-TRÀNSIC). The IN2TIC doctoral programme offers a comprehensive training ecosystem, including international secondments, industrial mentorships, and a Personal Career Development Plan tailored to each doctoral candidate. The programme covers a wide range of research topics, such as automatic translation, corpus linguistics, computational lexicography, specialized communication, and the impact of ICT on society. Candidates will benefit from excellent supervision, exposure to non-academic sectors, and a vibrant international research environment. Successful applicants will receive a full-time predoctoral contract with a gross annual salary of €29,934.12, plus additional benefits such as family and relocation allowances, PhD fees, equipment, and access to training and wellness resources. The programme is committed to open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment, ensuring gender equality and non-discrimination throughout the selection process. Applicants should hold a relevant master's degree or equivalent in linguistics, communication, translation, computational linguistics, or related fields, and demonstrate a strong academic record and research interest in the listed areas. Proficiency in English and compliance with MSCA mobility and eligibility rules are required. For detailed eligibility criteria and application instructions, consult the Guide for Applicants on the official IN2TIC website. The application deadline is 31 January 2026. For more information, visit the official programme website, contact [email protected], or reach out to GRIAL group members. An online information session will be held on December 16th at 1:00 PM (CET).
