Postdoctoral Fellow in AI-Driven Energy Management and Electricity Markets at Lakehead University
The SPEARS Research Group at Lakehead University (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for a cutting-edge research and industry collaboration project in AI-driven energy management and electricity markets. The project focuses on integrating large language models (LLMs), reinforcement learning (RL), IoT, and advanced optimization into intelligent energy management and electricity market participation strategies. The research aims to develop an AI-based Energy CoPilot that leverages LLMs for energy management, RL for adaptive decision-making, IoT and edge computing for real-time analytics, and optimization algorithms for load dispatch and market participation. The project also involves designing intelligent strategies for peak programs and capacity markets and validating AI-driven strategies in real commercial and industrial facilities.
Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, a strong background in power and energy systems, and must be currently based in Canada with legal eligibility to work in Canada. Essential skills include data analytics, Python scripting, AI and machine learning, reinforcement learning, familiarity with LLMs, and a solid understanding of energy and capacity markets. Experience with peak management, demand response programs, and interpreting market regulations is also required. The successful candidate will conduct deep research on North American electricity market structures, analyze market rules and regulatory changes, develop RL-based intelligent bidding agents, and integrate LLM-based regulatory and market intelligence tools. The position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, inclusive research environment committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Interested candidates should send their CV and a brief statement of research experience to [email protected]. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. For more information, visit the LinkedIn profile of the supervisor, Amir Ameli, Associate Professor at Lakehead University.
