Developing novel decolonization strategies against multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales

A fully funded PhD position is available at the University of Bern, Switzerland, in the field of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. The project, supervised by Professor Andrea Endimiani, is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and focuses on developing novel decolonization strategies against multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales. Research will utilize Zophobas morio larvae models and advanced molecular techniques, including metagenomics, CRISPR-Cas, cloning, and susceptibility testing. The successful candidate will work on whole genome and plasmid sequencing, assembly, annotation, metagenomics, functional studies, and antibiotic resistance research using in vivo infection models. Responsibilities include presenting findings at international meetings and publishing in scientific journals. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Life Sciences (microbiology, bacteriology, molecular biology), experience with sequencing and genome analysis, and a strong interest in antimicrobial resistance and infection biology.
