Post-doctoral Assistant in Forensic Psychology or Forensic Orthopedagogy

Ghent University is seeking a post-doctoral assistant in Forensic Psychology or Forensic Orthopedagogy for a two-year, full-time appointment within the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. The position is designed to temporarily strengthen the faculty’s research and teaching capacity in forensic psychology and special needs education, with a particular focus on field-driven issues and the development of these academic disciplines. The successful candidate will spend at least 70% of their time on academic research, and will also assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level (taught in Dutch), counsel Master’s and doctoral students, and contribute to the development of the academic field. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Psychology or Educational Sciences, with a prior master’s in Clinical Psychology or Educational Sciences (Clinical Special Needs Education and Disability studies). For non-EU degrees, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have a strong research background in forensic psychology or forensic orthopedagogy, demonstrated by relevant scientific publications and experience with research on antisocial behavior, forensic diagnostics (risk assessment), and/or interventions. Familiarity with explanatory models such as the Risk-Need-Responsivity Model, Positive Living Climate, and Good Lives Model is expected, as is experience with multi-method research and various data analytic techniques. The role also requires a commitment to knowledge- and skills-oriented education, including workshops and lectures on forensic-related topics, and proficiency in Dutch for teaching. The appointment starts no earlier than January 1, 2026, and cannot be renewed. Remuneration is according to salary scale AAP5, and staff benefits include paid leave, training opportunities, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. Applications must be submitted online before the deadline, including a CV, publication list, cover letter, diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence (if applicable). Ghent University encourages applications from all backgrounds as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy. For further information, contact Professor Olivier F. Colins or Professor Barbara De Clercq.
