PhD Position: Project Assistant in Environmental Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry

The University of Graz is seeking a Project Assistant for a PhD position in the Department of Chemistry, located in Graz, Austria. This opportunity is tailored for candidates who do not yet hold a doctorate and wish to pursue a PhD thesis while engaging in advanced research projects. The research focus is on environmental chemistry and analytical chemistry, with specific topics including mass spectrometry, particle analysis, environmental analysis and modelling, and contaminant analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with both research and industry partners, participate in independent research activities, contribute to scientific publications, and assist undergraduate students. Additional responsibilities include organizational and administrative tasks, as well as involvement in evaluation measures. Applicants should possess a completed master’s degree in a natural science discipline, with proven expertise in environmental chemistry. Required skills include proficiency in at least one of the following: mass spectrometry, particle analysis, environmental analysis and modelling, or contaminant analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary research, eagerness to learn new approaches and methodologies, basic literature research skills in relevant databases, advanced English proficiency, and excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork abilities. The University of Graz offers an annual gross salary of at least €52,007.20 for a full-time position (30 hours per week), with the possibility of overpayment depending on qualifications and experience. The contract is temporary for three years, starting December 1, 2025.
