Lund University’s Department of Sociology is recruiting a PhD student for the GANGREC project, which investigates gang recruitment in Denmark and Sweden. The project uses multi-method qualitative research, including interviews and hybrid ethnography, to study how gangs attract new members both online and offline. The successful candidate will join a team of Swedish and Danish researchers and work closely with the project leader, David Sausdal. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in sociology, criminology, anthropology, or a related field, and experience with ethnographic research in gang environments. Strong ethical awareness, theoretical ability, and excellent English skills are required; Swedish and/or Danish proficiency is highly prioritized. The position is fully funded for four years, with possible teaching duties. The doctoral student will be expected to participate actively in departmental life, collaborate with the research team, and contribute to international research networks.
