PhD Position in Quantitative Pharmacology of Biologics

The Leuven Pharmacometrics Research Group at KU Leuven, led by Prof. Erwin Dreesen, is offering a fully funded PhD position in Quantitative Pharmacology of Biologics. The group is part of the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy Unit within the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, and is internationally recognized for its expertise in data-driven modeling and simulation (M&S) to advance drug development and precision medicine. Research areas span immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, transplantation, and oncology. This PhD project focuses on developing a computational platform model for biologic therapies, integrating data from clinical trials and real-world studies. The aim is to simulate and evaluate optimized dosing strategies for special populations, including hard-to-treat patients. The project is embedded in a flexible academic–industry collaboration, providing opportunities for scientific exploration, innovation, and direct impact on model-informed drug development in line with emerging regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, supportive, and international research environment with English as the primary working language. The position offers access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, high-performance computing, and dedicated training programs to enhance expertise. There are ample opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, career development, and participation in regular social and networking events. KU Leuven is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and diverse workplace culture. Eligibility: Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, (Bio)medicine, (Bio)statistics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Bioengineering, or a related field. Essential skills include experience with modeling and simulation software (e.g., NONMEM, R), statistical data analysis, programming in R and/or Python, and excellent English communication skills. Candidates should be independent, proactive, and enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research. Prior experience with PK–PD studies and a background in pharmacometrics are advantageous but not required. Funding: The position is full-time, initially for 2 years and extendable up to 4 years, with full research support, access to infrastructure, and training. The project is conducted in collaboration with industry partners. Application Window: The application deadline is 27 February 2026. For more information, contact Prof. dr. Erwin Dreesen at [email protected] . Apply online via the KU Leuven job portal using the provided link.
