The University of Oxford is offering several fully-funded DPhil (PhD) positions in medical sciences, focusing on advanced cardiac and lung imaging using MRI and hyperpolarized xenon techniques. Projects span the development of novel hardware and software for functional hyperpolarised Xenon MRI, deep learning for multimodal lung imaging, and real-time cardiac metabolism tracking. Supervisors include Professor Fergus Gleeson and Dr James Grist, with commercial partnership from 4E-FUTURES (TEQRF). The research aims to improve image quality, reduce scan times and costs, and enable earlier disease detection in clinical settings. Applicants should have a strong background in medical sciences, biomedical engineering, physics, computer science, or related fields, and demonstrate interest or experience in MRI, hardware/software development, or AI.
