Mining and Materials Engineering

McGill University’s Department of Mining and Materials Engineering is offering PhD positions starting Fall 2026 in the Geomechanics Laboratory (Prof. Ferri Hassani) and the Mine Multiphysics Laboratory (Prof. Agus P Sasmito). Successful candidates will work on advanced research topics in geomechanics, mining, materials, and energy systems, including heat transfer, fluid mechanics, FEM, CFD, rock mechanics, mineral processing, and optimization. The program welcomes applicants with strong academic backgrounds in Mechanical, Mining, Materials, Civil/Geotechnical, or Chemical Engineering, or related fields. Candidates should demonstrate research experience through projects, internships, presentations, or publications, and possess excellent communication skills and motivation for industry-oriented research.
