Doctoral Candidate in Urban Socio-Spatial Inequalities Analysis
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a Doctoral Candidate in Urban Socio-Spatial Inequalities Analysis. This PhD position is based within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE), renowned for its interdisciplinary and international research environment. The successful candidate will join the Department of Geography and Spatial Planning and contribute to the CORJOLIS Project, focusing on the analysis of urban socio-spatial inequalities.
Supervised by Prof. Geoffrey Caruso, and supported by an interdisciplinary PhD committee including Prof. Rémi Lemoy (physicist/geographer), Prof. Pierre Picard (urban economist), and Dir. Goffette Nagot (urban economist), the doctoral researcher will develop a thesis in geography. The role involves active collaboration with project partners, production of high-quality research articles, assistance in research management, organization of research activities, and preparation of geographic data. The candidate will also contribute to teaching and mentoring Master’s students.
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in human geography, spatial economics, or a quantitative social science field. Alternatively, candidates with a Master’s in physics, mathematics, or a related discipline with demonstrated interest in socio-economic or urban issues are welcome. Essential skills include a strong understanding of urban geography or urban economics, solid data-management, analytical, and econometric skills, particularly with spatial packages and GIS. Language proficiency at B2 level or higher in the thesis language is required.
