PhD Position in AI and Strategy
ETH Zürich’s Chair of Strategic Management and Innovation (SMI) is offering a fully funded PhD position as part of an SNSF-funded research project focused on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in organizational strategy. This opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about exploring how AI can support and reshape strategic processes within organizations, combining rigorous academic research with practical relevance.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international research team renowned for publishing in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Harvard Business Review. The PhD project will typically consist of at least three high-quality papers intended for leading academic outlets, with close supervision and collaboration from distinguished faculty and senior researchers, including Professor Dr. Georg von Krogh and Dr. Ann-Kristin Weiser.

The position is based in the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC), offering competitive salary and employment conditions for up to four years, in line with ETH Zürich regulations.
Eligibility requirements include a Master’s degree in Management or a related discipline (Management Engineering, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or Economics with a management focus), with graduation not older than two years. Proficiency in German (spoken and written) is mandatory. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams. Additional qualifications such as experience with AI in business contexts or prior consulting/industry experience in strategy or management are considered advantageous.
