Postdoctoral and Project Research Positions in Environmental and Atmospheric Science at NIAS (India)
The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), located at the Indian Institute of Science campus in Bengaluru, India, is inviting applications for multiple project-based research positions in the fields of Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, and related disciplines. The available positions include Principal Project Associate, Post-Doctoral Associate, and Project Associate-II, all of which are part of ongoing projects focused on air pollution, emissions, climate change, and their impacts on health and policy. The research is supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and involves advanced multidisciplinary work on topics such as ultrafine particulate matter (PM1), HFC emissions, and climate-health interactions.
The Principal Project Associate position requires a PhD in Science, Engineering, or Technology with significant R&D experience in air pollution and human health, or a Master's degree with extended experience. The Post-Doctoral Associate role is open to candidates with a PhD in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Physics, or Environmental Science, with hands-on experience in WRF-Chem modeling or similar, and skills in data analysis, MatLab, GIS, and climate policy frameworks. The Project Associate-II position is suitable for those with a Master's in Environmental Science, Physics, Climate Change, Atmospheric Science, or Meteorology, or a Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology with drone certification, or Medicine/Public Health with relevant experience in climate-health impacts and data analysis.
Funding for these positions is competitive, with monthly emoluments ranging from 33,000 to 67,000 INR plus HRA, depending on qualifications and eligibility (NET/GATE preferred for higher salary). The initial appointment is for one year, extendable up to five years based on performance and funding availability. The research group is led by Prof. Gufran Beig, Chair Professor at NIAS and a leading expert in atmospheric research.
Applicants should submit a detailed CV, educational certificates, marksheets, and (for P1/P2) two SCI publications and referee details, as a single PDF to [email protected] by 23rd February 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online, with presentations required for senior posts. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated researchers interested in environmental and atmospheric science, air pollution, emissions, climate change, and health policy to join a leading Indian research institute and contribute to impactful multidisciplinary projects.
