Swarm Intelligence

The Swarm Intelligence Lab at Rutgers University is recruiting one fully funded PhD student to join their team in Spring 2026. The research focuses on data-driven modeling of fish collective behavior and its application to swarm robotics, spanning topics such as dynamical systems, control theory, distributed network systems, animal behavior, and robot autonomy. The lab is part of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is led by Professor Imran Sarwar. Eligible candidates must have a B.S. and/or M.S. in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, reside in the United States, and be eligible to begin graduate studies in Spring 2026. A strong foundation in mathematics is required, and applicants should have interests or skills in at least two of the following: data science, control theory, dynamical systems, animal behavior, robotics, or optimization.
