Research Assistant in Bioeconomy Policy and Sustainability (Master's level) at University of Bonn

The Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn in Germany is seeking a Research Assistant to join the project team of "BioSummit – Bioeconomy in Dialogue." This project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity, aims to support the development of an inclusive and independent global bioeconomy platform that advances strategic alignment and dialogue across international bioeconomy policies and initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Jan Börner, Prof. Christine Lang, and Dr. Gideon Tups in a highly interdisciplinary and globally connected environment. The main tasks include conducting systematic analysis and comparative assessment of bioeconomy policies and strategies at global, regional, and national levels, contributing to policy reports and analytical outputs, supporting stakeholder mapping and engagement processes, and assisting in the design and facilitation of multi-stakeholder workshops, including the Global Bioeconomy Summit in Dublin (October 2026). Applicants should hold an MSc in agricultural economics, political science, sustainability sciences, or related disciplines, and have initial experience in policy analysis, preferably in bioeconomy, agriculture, or sustainability transitions. Strong analytical skills, including quantitative or mixed-method approaches (such as policy databases, statistical analysis, text mining, or comparative policy analysis) using tools like R or Python, are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and strong intercultural competence are essential. The University of Bonn offers a stimulating international and interdisciplinary research environment within the Environmental Policy Group (ENVPOL), excellent networks of national and international partners, and a contract for a period of eight months (18 hours per week). Applications from women are particularly welcome and will be given preferential consideration in accordance with applicable regulations. To apply, candidates should send a single PDF file including a short cover letter and CV to Dr. Gideon Tups ([email protected]) by March 9th, 2026. For further information, applicants may contact Dr. Tups at the same email address.
