Postdoctoral Position in Clinical AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science at University of California, San Francisco

The PROSPECT lab, the digital innovation team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher or senior AI engineer. The lab's mission is to improve health outcomes and equity in vulnerable and underserved populations through the application of novel technologies and digital tools. The interdisciplinary team includes experts in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, informatics, and health equity. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, deployment, and scaling of HIPAA-compliant AI applications that integrate with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Responsibilities include building data pipelines for processing clinical notes and multi-modal EHR data, creating infrastructure and tooling to accelerate AI research, conducting independent research on clinical AI tool safety and effectiveness, collaborating with clinicians and informaticists, preparing research manuscripts, and designing open-source software for the research and clinical communities. Applicants should hold a PhD in computer science, (bio)statistics, data science, or a related field, with strong software engineering skills and experience in building production systems. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker), database design, scalable data pipelines, and large-scale data processing is required. Preferred qualifications include experience with EHR systems, healthcare data integration, natural language processing, and a strong publication record. The position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge clinical AI monitoring systems, collaborating with leading faculty from UCSF, Johns Hopkins University, and other institutions. Funding is provided as per university postdoctoral guidelines. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, and applications from females and underrepresented groups are especially encouraged. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. For application instructions and further details, visit the provided links.
