Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioengineering and 3D Ex Vivo Models for Pharmaceutical Applications
The Biofilms Research Center for Biointerfaces at Malmö University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Biobarriers Project, specifically the 'Ex vivo models' subproject. The research focuses on developing advanced ex vivo 3D tissue models of skin and mucosa (lung and oral) for pharmaceutical applications, with the goal of improving health and healing of biological barriers. The project is highly interdisciplinary, involving collaboration with academic, industrial, and clinical partners, and aims to modernize clinical treatments and products through molecular-level knowledge.
The successful candidate will work within a vibrant research environment at the Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Biomedical Science. The project is funded by The Knowledge Foundation and involves partners such as Truly Labs AB, Zelmic AB, and Galenica AB. Research activities include investigating how molecular and biophysical aspects of skin and mucosa are influenced by pharmaceutical formulations, with the aim of translating findings into clinical and industrial applications. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with regional universities and infrastructures, including MAX IV and ESS, and for contributing to a strong Scandinavian hub for topical drug delivery and non-invasive analytics.
Applicants should have a PhD in biochemistry, biology, bioengineering, or pharmacy, ideally completed within the last three years, and a master's degree in a related field. Strong hands-on experience with cell culture, tissue engineering, 3D models, histology, immunostaining, PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, multiplex assay, confocal microscopy, western blot, histochemistry, immunohistology, and Franz and flow-through diffusion is highly valued. Candidates should also demonstrate project management and leadership abilities, excellent English language skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include research, supervision of students, maintenance of research instruments, and participation in teaching and funding applications.
The position is a paid postdoctoral appointment with salary and benefits according to Malmö University standards. The application deadline is 2026-01-11. To apply, candidates should submit their application via Malmö University's recruitment system, including a CV, documentation of pedagogical and scientific expertise, degree certificates, and a brief account of relevant activities. Applications must be in Swedish, English, or a Scandinavian language.
