PhD in Food and Formulation Engineering: Membrane Concepts for Plant-Based Drinks at Lund University

Lund University is offering a fully funded PhD position in Food and Formulation Engineering, focusing on membrane concepts for plant-based drinks, particularly oat-based products. The project is part of the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Networks (UP2MEM), which aims to develop advanced membrane technologies for water and food industries, supporting zero waste and a circular economy. The doctoral student will join the Department of Process and Life Science Engineering (PLE), collaborating with the Food Bioprocess and Membrane groups, both leaders in their fields. The research will involve developing and optimizing membrane processes for concentrating oat base, controlling protein and dry matter content, and improving membrane cleaning protocols. The project includes high-value applications such as plant-based yogurt and ice cream mixes. The position offers international collaboration, secondments at companies and universities, and participation in EU doctoral courses. Applicants must have a relevant Master's degree, strong English skills, and experience in food technology, process engineering, or related fields. Additional qualifications such as analytical skills, pilot-scale experience, and a driver's license are valued. The position is salaried, with benefits, and runs for four years.
