PhD Positions in Robotics, AI, and Mechatronics Engineering at Kennesaw State University (Fall 2026)

The Intelligent Dexterity (InDex) Lab at Kennesaw State University is recruiting multiple PhD students and Graduate Research Assistants for Fall 2026. The lab, led by Assistant Professor Lingfeng Tao, focuses on cutting-edge research in robotics and artificial intelligence, including deep reinforcement learning, vision-language-action (VLA) models, dexterous robotic manipulation, human-robot interaction, teleoperation, multi-modal perception, simulation-to-real transfer, and multi-robot coordination and planning. Research in the InDex Lab is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NVIDIA, providing access to state-of-the-art robotics platforms such as robotic arms, dexterous hands, quadrupeds, UAVs, and mobile robots. The lab features two dedicated spaces (1200 sqft and a new >2000 sqft facility under construction) and high-performance AI training infrastructure, including a server with 4× NVIDIA RTX 6000 PRO 96GB GPUs and dedicated RTX 5090 GPU workstations for each PhD student. Accepted PhD students will receive full financial support, including tuition remission and a stipend. The program offers a collaborative and mentorship-driven environment, with opportunities to work on advanced robotics and AI projects, publish in top-tier venues, and access cutting-edge hardware and compute resources. Applicants should have a background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, or related fields. Strong candidates will demonstrate solid programming skills in Python and C++, experience with platforms such as PyTorch, ROS, MuJoCo, or Isaac Sim, and a background in machine learning, robotics, computer vision, or control systems. High self-motivation, curiosity, and the ability to work independently are essential. To apply, candidates should send their CV, transcripts, and a brief research statement to [email protected] and apply to the PhD program at Kennesaw State University. The application deadline for Fall 2026 is June 1, 2026. The Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at Kennesaw State University offers a multidisciplinary approach to engineering education, integrating mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles. The Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering program prepares students for careers in academia, industry, or government, with a focus on intelligent robotic systems, smart infrastructure, biomedical systems, and innovative materials.
