Postdoctoral Researcher in Medical Demography at Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research

The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock, Germany, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the Max Planck Research Group on Medical Demography, led by Marcus Ebeling. The group investigates how medical progress shapes population health, resilience, and vulnerability, focusing on the impact of disease presence, diffusion of medical advances, and health inequalities. Research is interdisciplinary, combining demography, epidemiology, public health, and sociology, and involves quantitative analysis of high-resolution health data. Applicants should have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in demography, sociology, epidemiology, medicine, health economics, biostatistics, public health, or a related field. Required skills include proficiency in statistical software such as R or Stata, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary research. Experience with quantitative analyses of population registers, hospital records, or panel data is desirable. The position is open to international candidates, and the institute provides support for obtaining work visas. The successful candidate will receive a 3-year contract with a salary starting from approximately 64,940 EUR gross per year, based on the German public sector pay scale, with higher salaries for more experienced researchers.
