Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Metabolomics and Exposomics

Örebro University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in computational metabolomics and exposomics at the School of Medical Sciences. This fixed-term position focuses on the processing and analysis of metabolomics and exposomics data, with an emphasis on both method development and practical applications. The successful candidate will join the systems medicine research group, which collaborates on projects funded by the European Union, National Institutes for Health, and other organizations. The group works closely with the metabolomics and exposome research laboratory, producing and analyzing large-scale mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, lipidomics, and exposomics data from various human studies. Research topics include the integration of these data with other biological layers and outcomes, with recent projects addressing Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, and steatotic liver disease. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for establishing and maintaining data processing and analysis pipelines for metabolomics and exposomics. The role involves innovative computational method development and participation in international collaborative efforts, such as studying the exposome’s role in Alzheimer’s disease. The position is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension for an additional year, and offers a full-time salary based on qualifications and experience. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent) awarded within the past three years and have not previously held a postdoctoral position in the same subject at Örebro University for more than one year. Required qualifications include expertise in computational metabolomics, computational biostatistics, statistical and machine learning, and analysis of biological multi-modal and multivariate data. Proficiency in R is essential, with additional experience in Java or Python considered a merit. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Örebro University values diversity, equal opportunities, and a collaborative work environment. The application deadline is January 7, 2026. For further information, contact Professor Matej Orešič ([email protected]) or Liza Ljungberg ([email protected]). More details and the application portal are available on the university’s career site.
