PhD Studentship in Engineering, Signal Processing, and Applied Mathematics (Neurotechnology, EEG, VR/AR)
The Centre for Intelligent Signal and Imaging Research (CISIR) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, is offering a PhD studentship in Engineering and Applied Mathematics with a focus on neurotechnology and biomedical image analysis. The center is a national leader in neuro-imaging for biomedical applications, addressing challenges such as supporting autistic children, workforce health, and aging populations. Research topics include EEG-based neurofeedback for early autism detection, EEG combined with VR/AR for workplace critical situations, and EEG with eye tracking for early cognitive decline detection.
Applicants should have a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor's degree with a CGPA of at least 3.25/4.00 and a Master's degree in Engineering or a related field. Preferred candidates will have expertise in signal and image processing, statistical analysis, electrophysiological data acquisition (such as EEG, fNIRS, fMRI), VR/AR, and deep learning. Proficiency in English is required, with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall. Candidates should also demonstrate research competency, publication experience, and the ability to assist with research reporting.
The studentship offers a monthly stipend of RM 3,000 and opportunities to attend conferences and short courses. Interested applicants should send their CV, academic transcripts, and a cover letter detailing their expertise and research interests to Dr Rumaisa Hasan at [email protected]. The application deadline is Sunday, 1 February 2026.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in biomedical engineering, computer science, neuroscience, and electrical engineering, particularly those passionate about neurotechnology and its applications in healthcare and cognitive science.
