PhD and Integrated MSc+PhD Positions in De Novo Protein Design at University of Copenhagen
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Design (CPD) at the University of Copenhagen is offering fully funded PhD and integrated MSc+PhD positions in the field of de novo protein design. These positions are ideal for highly motivated students with backgrounds in biological, chemical, computational, or physical sciences who are passionate about advancing protein engineering, structure, dynamics, catalysis, and the creation of molecular machines. The CPD is a multidisciplinary center that bridges biology, chemistry, and computational sciences, focusing on both fundamental and applied biosciences, including biotechnology and medicine.
Successful applicants will join the first cohort of CPD PhD students and have the opportunity to work in the research groups of Professor Dek Woolfson or Professor Nicholas M I Taylor, both leading experts in protein design. Research projects span a wide range of topics, such as the design and characterization of novel protein structures, installation of catalytic activities, targeting subcellular complexes, molecular machine design, and applications in phage therapy. The CPD offers state-of-the-art computational and experimental facilities, a collaborative and inclusive research environment, and regular interactions with world-leading protein designers.
There are two entry routes: a 3-year PhD program for candidates with a relevant master's degree, and an integrated MSc+PhD program (up to 5 years) for those with a relevant bachelor's degree. Both tracks provide comprehensive training in theoretical and practical aspects of protein design, including computational and AI methods, and offer opportunities for teaching, international collaboration, and conference participation. Funding is fully provided, with salaries and grants according to Danish state agreements, and tuition is covered.
Applicants should demonstrate strong motivation, relevant academic background, and a clear interest in protein design. Prior experience in de novo protein design or protein engineering is advantageous but not required. The application process is electronic and must be completed in English via the University of Copenhagen job portal. For more information, visit the provided links.
