Doctoral Student in Distributed Computing
The KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, invites applications for a doctoral student position in Distributed Computing. This Ph.D. project is situated within the third-cycle subject of Computer Science and aims to advance fundamental theory and methods in distributed systems. The research will focus on applying distributed computing principles across a variety of domains, including large-scale graph processing, edge computing, and networked systems. The scope of work encompasses theoretical and algorithmic development of distributed protocols and coordination mechanisms, the design and implementation of distributed frameworks and systems, and experimental evaluation and verification using high-performance computing clusters and testbeds.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment at the intersection of distributed systems, graph theory, and emerging computing paradigms. Supervision will be provided by Associate Professor Paris Carbone. Admission requirements include a second cycle degree (such as a master's) or equivalent, or completion of at least 240 higher education credits (with at least 60 at second-cycle level). English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in distributed systems, data management, or parallel computing, strong programming skills, and ideally have first research experience through peer-reviewed publications. Personal attributes such as goal orientation, perseverance, independence, collaboration, professionalism, and analytical skills are highly valued during the selection process.
The position is full-time and temporary, with employment for up to four years, renewable according to KTH's doctoral student salary agreement.
