Postdoctoral Associate in Forest Bioenergy, Environmental Health, and Sustainability at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Ching-Hsun Huang’s lab in the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials, focusing on forest bioenergy and the environmental and health co-benefits of sustainable forest utilization. This interdisciplinary research position centers on developing and applying integrated, spatially explicit modeling frameworks that connect forest resource utilization, life-cycle emissions, air quality, public health outcomes, and economic valuation. The research aims to support policy-relevant analysis of renewable energy and forest management strategies in the Southern Appalachian and Mid-Atlantic region. The successful candidate will contribute to data integration, modeling, and peer-reviewed publication, working in a collaborative and supportive environment that values innovative thinking and interdisciplinary approaches. The position is ideal for emerging scholars passionate about sustainability, environmental health, forest bioenergy, environmental policy, and public health. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in environmental economics, resource economics, forestry, environmental science, energy systems, public health, or a closely related field, with strong quantitative and analytical skills, and experience in data analysis and modeling. Preferred skills include life-cycle assessment, environmental modeling, sustainability analysis, air-quality or health-impact assessment, programming in R, Python, or MATLAB, and a record of peer-reviewed publications. The position offers a salary of $55,000–$60,000 per year, is full-time (40 hours per week), and is a restricted appointment. The application package should include a cover letter, CV, contact information for three references, and optionally 1–2 representative publications or working papers, submitted as a single PDF. The deadline for applications is March 9, 2026. For more information or questions about research fit, applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Ching-Hsun Huang at [email protected]. Apply via the Virginia Tech job portal. Virginia Tech is a leading global research institution committed to diversity, inclusion, and professional development.
