PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in AI-driven Multi-Omics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biomedicine

The Department of Stem Cell Biology at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, led by Dr. Pooja Gupta, is recruiting for two exciting positions: a Postdoctoral Researcher and a PhD student. These roles are part of a BMFTR-funded project titled “AI-Driven Multi-Omics Integration for Predicting IBD-PD Comorbidity Progression,” focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence, multi-omics data integration, and disease biology, with applications in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Successful candidates will join a newly established, interdisciplinary research group in bioinformatics and computational biomedicine. The research involves developing and applying advanced AI models, such as graph neural networks and variational autoencoders, to analyze large-scale transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic datasets. The aim is to construct molecular interaction networks, perform biomarker discovery, and conduct simulation-based perturbation analyses, all within a translational research environment that collaborates closely with clinicians and experimental scientists. The postdoctoral position requires a PhD in a relevant field, strong machine learning and statistical modeling skills, experience with multi-omics data, and proficiency in Python/R and deep learning frameworks. The PhD position requires a Master’s degree in a quantitative field, programming skills, experience with high-throughput biological data, and strong English communication abilities.
