Postdoctoral Associate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at SUNY Polytechnic Institute
The Wireless and Intelligent Next Generation Systems (WINGS) Center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist in Electrical/Computer Engineering, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in both basic and applied research, collaborating with the Department of Defense (DOD) and the US Army DEVCOM Analysis Center. Research topics include the development of novel machine learning and AI models, adaptation of existing approaches for AI-enabled decision aid systems, and analytical frameworks. The role also involves tuning Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-modal foundation models for resource-constrained environments, training large-scale deep learning systems using GPU/TPU parallelization, and supporting end users in applying machine learning methods effectively.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field (engineering, applied mathematics, statistics) awarded within the past 5 years. Required qualifications include a strong theoretical and practical background in machine learning, foundation models, and AI techniques, with specific experience in large language models, quantization, parameter sparsity, and model distillation. A demonstrated publication record in the field, excellent programming skills, and experience with state-of-the-art foundation models and agentic AI models are essential. Additional desirable skills include experience in large-scale deep learning systems, GPU/TPU parallelization, multi-modality data analysis (image, video, text), and multidisciplinary collaborations.
The position is based at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, NY, within a collaborative research environment that offers opportunities for publications and grant projects. The appointment is for one year, renewable based on performance and funding availability. No specific salary or stipend details are provided. The WINGS Center is dedicated to advancing safe and secure artificial intelligence, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in impactful research at the intersection of AI, ML, and engineering.
To apply, candidates should use the provided application link and prepare a CV and supporting documents that highlight their relevant experience. The opportunity is open now, and applicants are encouraged to share the position within their professional networks.
